TODD BERGEN
The hockey center signs this 2¾x4 color newspaper photograph in purple felt tip
Newspaper photograph signed: “Todd/Bergen/19” in purple felt. 2¾x4. Retired center Todd
Bergen (b. 1963) had a very brief NHL career, playing just 14 games with the Philadelphia
Flyers during the 1984-1985 season. A promising young player from the start, Bergen was
drafted in the 5th round, 98th overall, though with very little organized hockey experience.
However, his numbers from the Prince Albert Raiders of WHL (including his outstanding 92
points in 59 games first season stats), made Bergen a desirable pick for any NHL team. In
his first game with the Flyers, Bergen scored two-goals, one of them the game winner, but the
very next game he suffered an abdominal injury that kept him off the ice for two months.
Along with having an insistent injury, Bergen also had a poor relationship with Flyers coach
Mike Keenan, a dispute which angered Bergen enough to ditch training camp. Suspended
indefinitely for his actions, Bergen left the Flyers and was traded to the North Stars, but with
his injuries, he was never given a chance to play. While a fantastic athlete, Bergen's professional
hockey career ended almost as soon as it started, and he quit the sport all together in 1987.
Instead, Bergen became a golfer, part of club pro in Prince Albert and Vancouver.
Mounted on 3½x5 card. Corners lightly rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
