TOM CLANCY
The best-selling author pens a short note to a collector
Autograph Note signed: "Tom Clancy", at bottom of TLS from an
autograph collector, 1p, 8½x11. In response to a letter dated May 8, 1992
requesting that he sign three first day covers already signed by author Clive
Cussler, Clancy has writes, in full: "Sorry, but I think it's improper
for me to sign another author's cover." A pioneer of the techno-thriller,
Clancy (1947-2013) combined his lifelong interests in the military and
technology in his first novel, The Hunt For Red October (1984). The
book, which became an instant best-seller, introduced his signature
character, ex-Marine Jack Ryan, who became a government operative in later
novels, including Patriot Games (1986) and Clear and Present
Danger (1989). By 2000, Ryan was the newly elected President, facing
sinister forces at work in China in The Bear and The Dragon. Bold
horizontal fold separates the ANS from the typed letter above it. Fine
condition.
