Show bill cover "Tom Courtenay" in blue ink. 1 page, 5½x9. Undated Playbill cover for the Plymouth Theatre production of Otherwise Engaged. This production ran for 309 performances from Feb. 2, 1977 to Oct. 30, 1977 at the Plymouth Theatre (now the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre) on Broadway. Courtenay received his first of two Tony nominations for his portrayal of Simon in this play. Courtenay, born in Hull, Humberside, England in 1937, is an English actor with a long and distinguished stage career, as well as almost 40 TV shows and movie to his credit. He debuted with the Old Vic company in London's West End in 1960. In 1961, he over the title role in Billy Liar from Albert Finney in 1961, a role that he reprised in the 1963 film adaptation. Courtenay's memorable film roles include rebellious Colin Smith in The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962), Pasha Antipov in Doctor Zhivago (1965), and as Norman, dresser for Finney's character in The Dresser (1981). Courtenay was nominated for acting Oscars for his roles in Doctor Zhivago and The Dresser, as well as Tonys for his roles in Otherwise Engaged (1977) and a 1982 stage adaptation of The Dresser. He was knighted in 2001. Lightly toned, soiled and creased. Cover has been torn neatly from show bill on left edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
