TOM EWELL
A letter from the actor to a friend, saying that he and his dog, Daisy, send
their regards
Autograph Letter signed: "Tom Ewell", in blue ink, 1 page, 5¾x7¾.
In full: "Dear Barry - Well your letter finally [illegible] up
with me - Have been in Algeria all summer - Ran out of regular photos but I had
this taken with my dog Daisy - She sends you regards + so do I". A stage
actor from 1928, Tom Ewell (1909-1994) didn't land big roles until after
his naval service in WWII. He scored two big Broadway successes, John
Loves Mary (1947) and The Seven Year Itch (1954), winning a Tony for
the latter and reprising the role opposite Marilyn Monroe in the film version
the following year. Not a classic leading man, Ewell often played wayward
husbands (Adam's Rib, 1949) or ordinary soldiers (Up Front, 1951).
He had his own TV sitcom for a year (The Tom Ewell Show, 1960-1961) and a
regular role on Baretta (1975-1978). Normal mailing fold. Light surface
creases. Fine condition.
