Adapted from an incident recorded by historian Stephen E. Ambrose in his 1994 bestseller D-Day: June 6, 1944, the film, the winner of five Academy Awards, tells the story of the mission to save one man after the Normandy invasion. Army Chief of Staff General George C. Marshall, learning that three Ryan brothers from the same family have all been killed in a single week, requests that the surviving brother, Private James Ryan, be located and brought back to the United States. Captain Miller gets the assignment. Tom Hanks, (b. 1955) who first gained fame in the TV sitcom, Bosom Buddies (1980-1982), won consecutive Best Actor Academy Awards in 1993 (Philadelphia) and 1994 (Forrest Gump). He has been nominated for Best Actor Oscars for Big (1988) and Saving Private Ryan (1998) as well as Cast Away. Hanks' other popular films include A League of Their Own (1992), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), Apollo XIII (1995, as James Lovell) and The Da Vinci Code (2006). Fine condition.
