TOM KELLY His signature on an envelope commemorating Game Six of the 1987 World Series Commemorative Envelope signed: "Tom Kelly", 6½x3½. Color cachet showing Kent Hrbek hitting his grand slam homer in Game 6 of the 1987 World Series (won by the Twins in 7 games). Postmarked Metrodome Station, Minneapolis, Minnesota, October 24, 1987 (the date and site of the game), 22-cent US flag stamp affixed. Like many of baseball's finest managers, Tom Kelly was a marginal player, appearing in only 49 Major League games (with the Minnesota Twins in 1975) and batting a measly .181. His performance as a manager was considerably better. After managing in the Twins' minor league system and coaching for 3 years, he took over the reins as manager in 1986 and stayed for 16 years (1986-2001). During that time he led the team to two World Championships (1987 and 1991), a very good showing for a small market team. He was named Manager of the Year in 1991. The game featured here was followed by another win in Game 7. That victory over the Cardinals was matched by another 7-game triumph over the Atlanta Braves in 1991. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
