TOM T. HALL. Photograph signed: "Best regards/Tom T. Hall". B/w, 8x10. Known as a storyteller, songwriter Tom T. Hall's songs have a knack for the narrative. Although other artists had hits with his songs (most notably Jeannie C. Riley's rendition of "Harper Valley P.T.A." in 1968 and Johnnie Wright with "Hello Vietnam"), Hall also had a string of successes of his own. His "Ballad of Forty Dollars" became his first Top Ten hit, climbing to number four on the charts, and his first number one single, "A Week in a Country Jail" was released at the end of 1969. "Shoeshine Man" and "Salute to a Switchblade" hit the Top Ten in 1970. The following year, he released his second number one single -- and biggest hit -- "The Year That Clayton Delaney Died". The song was based on his childhood hero, a local musician who had taught Hall music and performing techniques. Those techniques were evident as Hall became a major concert draw and appeared regularly on television, most notably on Hee Haw. Hall continued to have occasional hits in the late 1970s and also authored a book on songwriting and a semi-autobiographical novel. Fine condition.
