Document signed: "Tom Tryon". One page, 6x6½. Miyako Hotel, Kyoto, Japan. Dated
February 27, 1961. Tryon authorizes the (un-named) recipient that Famous Artists
Corporation is authorized to accept payments owed to him, and promises to indemnify for
any losses resulting from this instruction. Tom Tryon (1926-1991) made his Broadway
debut in Wish You Were Here (1952-1953). Two years after the musical comedy wrapped
he appeared in his first screen roles, most notably two episodes of Frontier (1955). Tryon was
later selected by Walt Disney himself to portray Texas John Slaughter in Walt Disney's
Wonderful World of Color (1958-1961). The character was based on Texas Ranger John
Horton Slaughter (1841-1922), who was a Confederate soldier, lawman, rancher, and
gambler. Major feature films Tryon appeared in include I Married a Monster from Outer
Space (1958), The Cardinal (1963) and In Harm's Way (1965). For his starring role in The
Cardinal as a Catholic who rises to the titular position, he earned a Golden Globe nomination
for Best Actor. The film went on to win the Best Drama Golden Globe. In the 1970s, he
began writing horror stories with considerable success. Three of his publications - The
Other (1971), Harvest Home (1973), and Fedora (1978) - were made into films. Creased
from folds. Lightly toned. Ink notes (unknown hand) at lower margin. Otherwise, fine
condition.
