TOM WOLFE He pens an autograph letter of thanks for the accolade to Phyllis Diller Autograph Letter signed: "Tom Wolfe", 6½x4¾ picture postcard, postmarked New York, New York, April 7, 1995. On front is a reproduction of a postcard by Czech artist Moriz Ung (1885-1915) titled "Vienna Cafe: the Writer". Over text Wolfe has drawn and shaded two large exclamation points. Addressed in his hand to actress/comedienne Phyllis Diller, Los Angeles. In full: "Thanks for the accolade. It definitely brightened me this winter". The early novels of Tom Wolfe (1930-2018) which include The Kandy-Colored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby (1965) and The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test (1968), reflect the author's journalistic and pop-critic background. His later works include The Right Stuff, The Bonfire of the Vanities, A Man in Full and I Am Charlotte Simmons. Bonfire of the Vanities, serialized in Rolling Stone magazine before it was published as a best-selling novel in 1987, captures New York's Wall Street scene in the 1980s. Ink caption (unknown hand) at top right. Fine condition.
