The Light Heavyweight champ is shown in a kitchen, tasting the soup
he is heating. His signature is on the verso.
Photograph signed: "Tommy Loughran", in pencil. Sepia, 8x10.
Tommy Loughran, "the Philly Phantom", was World Light Heavyweight Champion
(1927-1929). On March 1, 1934, he lost a 15-round decision to Primo
Carnera in a World Heavyweight Championship bout. Fearless in taking on
larger men, he fought many of the heavyweight greats, including Gene Tunney,
Jack Sharkey and Georges Carpentier. He defeated future heavyweight titlists Max
Baer and James J. Craddock. In a pro career of nearly 20 years
(1919-1937), he notched a record of 89-25-10, knocking out 14
opponents while suffering only 3 himself. Creased and toned. Corners and edges
worn with small nicks and tears. Lightly soiled on verso (not affecting
signature). Photographer's stamp on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
