Famed singer sends a card wishing "Happy Holidays", signs his name in black ink underneath
Christmas/ Holiday card signed: "Tony Bennett" in black ink. 1 page, 8x6. Tony Bennett (b. 1926) has been a successful singer of popular standards for more than sixty years. (His first #1 hit, "Because of You", came in 1951). Bennett has earned nine Grammy Awards, the first for what has become his signature song, "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" (1962), the most recent for his album "Bennett Sings Ellington - Hot and Cool" (1999). Bennett's popularity slumped temporarily in the 1960s and 1970s, with ill-advised efforts by his record companies to coax him into making rock recordings, but he rebounded in the 1980s, featuring the show tunes and pop standards for which he is justly famed. Bennett, who has recorded over 70 albums, was a Kennedy Center honoree in 2005. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners rounded. Light surface creases. Fine condition.
