SOME LIKE IT HOT: TONY CURTIS and JACK LEMMON. Comprises (1) TONY CURTIS. Signature: "Tony Curtis", 3¼x1½. Fine condition. (2) JACK LEMMON. Signature: "Jack Lemmon", 3x1. Framed with a still from the1959 comedy, Some Like it Hot, in which Curtis starred as Joe/Josephine and Lemmon starred as Jerry/Daphne (Academy Award nomination for Best Actor). Curtis and Lemmon played two musicians who join an all-girl band to evade gangsters out to kill them. Complications arise when Curtis becomes attracted to the group's singer, played by Marilyn Monroe. The film was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Director (Billy Wilder), Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Black and White Cinematography and Best Art Direction and won an Oscar for Best Black and White Costume Design. The film also won Golden Globes for Best Picture - Musical or Comedy, Best Actor - Musical or Comedy (Lemmon) and Best Actress - Musical or Comedy (Marilyn Monroe). Originally cast mainly for his good looks, TONY CURTIS, born Bernard Schwartz (1925-2010), showed real acting talent in such films as The Defiant Ones (1958; nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor), Some Like It Hot (1959) and - cast against type - The Boston Strangler (1968; Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor - Drama). Later in his career, he preferred to play comic roles. Curtis, whose recent credits include Reflections of Evil (2002, narrator), A&E Biography: Janet Leigh (2003) and TV's Hope & Faith (2004), is the father of actress Jamie Leigh Curtis. A private school-educated everyman who could play outrageous comedy and wrenching tragedy, JACK LEMMON (1925-2001) won the 1955 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role as Ensign Pulver in Mister Roberts and the 1973 Academy Award for Best Actor for portraying garment manufacturer Harry Stoner in Save the Tiger (becoming the first actor to win both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Oscars). Lemmon also received Best Actor Oscar nominations for The Apartment, Days of Wine and Roses, The China Syndrome, Tribute and Missing as well as Some Like It Hot. Two items. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 15½x23¾.
