you/many many merry/days/Phyllis Neilson-Terry", 4½x3¼. Slips affixed to
opposite sides of a 7½x5¼ album leaf. Irish stage, film and television actor
TONY QUINN (1899-1967) appeared with the Irish Players in two Sean
O'Casey plays on Broadway (1926-1927). He was an early TV actor, appearing in
BBC productions in the late 1930s and on ITV into the 1960s. His feature
films included The Lavender Hill Mob (1951). Quinn's voice was chosen
to represent the Irish Midlands in the British Museum's collection of recorded
English regional speech. PHYLLIS NEILSON TERRY (1892-1977) came from a
renowned English stage family, including parents Fred Terry and Julia Neilson.
(She is a cousin of John Gielgud.) She appeared on Broadway over a span of more
than forty years, playing the female lead in her parents' production of Romeo
and Juliet (1914) and earning a Tony nomination as Best Featured Actress for
Separate Tables (1956-1957). Her film career was almost as long. She
played the Queen in the silent film Boadicea (1928), and appeared in
Look Back in Anger (1959). Toned and worn. Left edge frayed from binding.
Corners worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
