TONY RANDALL
A signed and handwritten note on verso of postcard from the estate of Kitty
Carlisle Hart. Features a 4½x6¼ color photograph of a sculpture done by Joel
Shapiro on the front.
Autograph Note signed: "17 Dec 95 Darling Kitty, I hope you love this. I love you.
Tony Randall", 4¼x6¼. Dated December 17, 1995. On a picture post card
showing an untitled bronze Joel Shapiro sculpture. Best remembered as Felix
Unger in the television series The Odd Couple (1970-1975), Tony Randall
(1920-2004) was an accomplished radio and stage actor by the late 1940s. He
also served in WWII as a member of the United States Army Signal Corps. In the
1950s, he turned towards television to continue his entertainment career,
eventually starring in successful comedies like Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter
(1957), and Pillow Talk (1959) after a slew of minor television roles. The Odd
Couple was the culmination of his television career, leading to The Tony
Randall Show (1976) and the Emmy-winning Dear Sydney (1981-1982). He
continued acting into the 21st century, with his final role in the film It's About
Time (2005). In 1991, Randall founded the National Actors Theatre, a
company based in New York City that was active until his death in 2004. This
postcard was written to, and was in the estate of, versatile singer, actress, and
television personality Kitty Carlisle (1910-2007), who was still performing a
one-woman show as late as 2006. Just like Randall, she appeared regularly on
the game show To Tell the Truth, which ran intermittently from 1956 to
2001. She was married to playwright Moss Hart until his death in 1961. Fine
condition.
