TOSHIKO AKIYOSHI
The celebrated jazz pianist signs a First Day Cover honoring Muddy Waters and Billie Holiday in her native Japanese
First Day Cover signed in Japanese. First Day Cover honoring blues and jazz singers, postmarked Greenville, Mississippi, September 17, 1994, 29-cent stamp affixed, honoring "Howlin' Wolf, Blues Singer 1910-1976", FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Cachet pictures Muddy Waters and Billie Holiday. Akiyoshi, born in Manchuria in 1929, a successful jazz pianist, conductor, arranger and composer, incorporates elements of traditional Japanese culture into American-style jazz. Nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, she was the first woman to direct a big band playing her own compositions and arrangements. Fine condition.
