TROOPER HOOK: JOEL McCREA and JODY McCREA. Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Bill Evans/from/Joel McCrea" and "Jody McCrea". B/w, 8x10. Movie still from the 1957 western. After a band of Indians kill a group of soldiers, Sergeant Hook (Joel McCrea) captures them and their leader, Nanches. Among the prisoners were Nanches' son and the boy's white mother, played by Barbara Stanwyck (pictured), captured by the Indians nine years earlier. JOEL McCREA (1905-1990), who was a movie stunt double while still in high school and appearing at the Pasadena Playhouse while at USC, made his film debut in 1927 and had his breakthrough role in Jazz Age two years later. In 1946, after making The Virginian, McCrea concentrated on Westerns. In addition to his long list of film credits, McCrea starred on the early 1950s radio show, Tales of the Texas Rangers, and the 1959 TV series, Wichita Town. Actor JODY McCREA (born in 1934) was the oldest of three sons born to Joel McCrea and his actress wife, Frances Dee. Jody has appeared in a number of feature films, including The First Texan (1956), Gunsight Ridge (1957) and Cry Blood, Apache (1970) with his father (with whom he also starred in Wichita Town), Operation Bikini (1963), Muscle Beach Party (1964), Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965). Jody gave up show business in 1970 to become a rancher in New Mexico. Lightly creased with surface striations. Overall, fine condition.
