Football signed by the quarterback who returned the Cowboys to glory
Football signed "Troy Aikman 8". White and pebbled brown Wilson Super
Bowl XXVII Paul Tagliabue football with signature on white side underneath Super
Bowl logo. Aikman was no. 1 overall draft pick in the 1989 NFL Draft. He came to
a Cowboys team that had just come off a 3-13 season and had fired beloved Tom
Landry, the team's first head coach. After a hard first year Aikman, who wore
the no. 8 jersey, led the Cowboys to within striking distance of the
playoffs in 1990. He led the Cowboys to three Super Bowls - including Super
Bowl XXVII, his first - and was a six-time Pro Bowler and the
first Cowboy to notch three straight 3,000-yard seasons. 1992 was a good one
for Aikman; in addition to winning Super Bowl XXVII, he set career highs with
32 completions, 3,445 passing yards and 23 touchdown passes and led
the Cowboys to 13 regular season wins, a team record. Aikman retired in 2001
and was made a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006.
Interestingly, the New York Mets offered Aikman a contract out of high school,
where he played baseball and football. Cowboys fans are glad he didn't take it.
