TRUMAN CAPOTE
The novelist signs on this typescript for his nonfictional novel In Cold Blood
Typescript signed: "Truman Capote", 1p, 8½x11. Headed: "In Cold Blood I/The Last To See Them Alive". The beginning of his 1966 "nonfiction novel", the account of the murder of a Kansas farm family. Truman Capote, who had read of the cold-blooded killings, traveled to Holcomb to investigate. He arrived in the town while the murderers were at large and was there during their capture, trial and imprisonment. During his six years of exhaustive research, his boyhood friend Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, assisted Capote in interviewing the townspeople. The resulting book created a new literary genre - and profoundly impacted Capote, whom killers Perry and Dick viewed as a friend. The versatile and flamboyant Capote, who was both a jet-setter and wrote about them, also introduced audiences to the charming Holly Golightly in his novella, Breakfast at Tiffany's (1958, film 1961). He shared his childhood memories in short stories such as A Christmas Memory (1966), which were adapted into teleplays. Fine condition.
