TRYGVE LIE. Philatelic Envelope signed: "Trygve Lie" as first U.N. Secretary General, "A. Pelt" as Assistant Secretary General, "E.F. Higgins" as Postmaster of Great Neck, N.Y., "D.B. Vaughn" as U.N. Director, "B.F. Wood" as U.N. Director, "J.R. Lopez, Jr." as U.N. Executive Officer, "A. Carey Seward, Jr." as Assistant U.N. Director, "E.D. Broduax" as Acting Chief of the Postal Service, "V.H. Gregoire" as Acting Chief of the Postal Service and "Leo Arfin" as Supervisor of the Postal Service, 6½x3½, commemorating the "Opening of/United Nations Post Office/Lake Success, N.Y." The 5-cent "'Toward/United Nations/April 25, 1945'/Franklin D. Roosevelt" U.S. stamp is affixed to the envelope and is postmarked "United Nations, Lake Success, N.Y., September 23, 1946, 9 AM." The horizontal cancellation lines bear the words: "a courier/of the/united/nations". Although not the official U.S. stamp issued in memory of FDR, this stamp was issued on April 25, 1945, just 13 days after FDR died, to honor the opening of the U.N. conference in San Francisco and bears the name of the late President. All who have signed are identified on the colorful cachet. A rare United Nations philatelic envelope made even more desirable by the signature of the first U.N. Secretary General. Ink lightly beaded on Lie's signature. Fine condition.
