Photograph signed: "Best wishes/Tubby Smith/Go Cats!" in black felt tip, Color, 8x10. American Men's College Basketball coach Orlando "Tubby" Smith was born on June 30, 1951 in Scotland, Maryland. His first head coaching job was at the University of Tulsa where he had a record of 79-43 and took his team to two Sweet 16 NCAA tournament appearances. He moved on to the University of Georgia where he led the Bulldogs to a Sweet 16 finish in 1996 and an overall record of 45-19 in two seasons. From 1997 until 2007 Smith was head coach of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and in his first season he led the team to a victory in the 1998 NCAA Division I National Championship. His Wildcats never again reached the glory of a National Championship, but Smith accumulated an impressive record of 263-83 with the team and was named theNaismith College Coach of the Year in 2003. He resigned as head coach of the Wildcats in 2007 to become head coach at the University of Minnesota. From 2007 to present day (2012) Smith has a record of 97-63 with the Golden Gophers.
