Partly Printed Document Signed: "Turhan Bay", 2p, 6½x8½, front and verso. Los Angeles, California, 1945 May 2. Headed: "Application for Membership/in the/American Federation of Radio Artists/Los Angeles Local". Bey has written his Los Angeles address and telephone number and written "Music Corp of America" on the line for his Agent's Name. He has also checked several boxes on verso, including "Associate" for type of membership. Lightly creased. Staple holes at upper portion. Pencil notes (unknown hand) at lower left margin on front and upper left corner on verso. Overall, fine condition. Accompanied by a typed sheet regarding the application, 1p, 4¾x4¼. On memo sheet from the desk of Evelyn Stenmark, mentioning that "Mr. Bey appeared on Abbott & Costello show week of March 12, 1945." Lightly creased. Staple holes at upper portion. Ink and pencil notes (unknown hand). Irregular lower edge. Overall, fine condition. In the year he signed this document, Bey was seen on the big screen in two films: Sudan and Frisco Sal. Born in Vienna, Austria to a Turkish father and a Czechoslovakian mother, actor Turhan Bey was a popular leading man of the 1940s who was often cast as mysterious or villainous characters on in Arabian nights-type films. Appearing in films from 1941-1996, Bey's credits also include Bombay Clipper, The Mummy's Tomb and Arabian Nights (all 1942), Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves and Dragon Seed (both 1944), Song of India (1949), The Skateboard Kid II (1995) and Virtual Combat (1996). He also made several guest starring appearances on television, most notably as two different characters on Babylon 5 (1995, 1998). Bey has returned to Vienna, where he is a successful photographer.Two items.
