Check signed: "Tyrus R. Cobb", 8½x3¼. Reno, Nevada, 1948 December 10. Unnumbered check, filled out in his own hand, drawn on Cobb's personal account at the First National Bank of Nevada, payable to Cash for $300.00. Bound in a leather and felt portfolio, 10¼x13 when closed, with two unsigned items: an action photo of Cobb (b/w, 8x10) and a metal plaque (6¼x4¼) summarizing Cobb's achievements as a ballplayer. Tyrus Raymond "Ty" Cobb (1886-1961) was the first player elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. With a .366 career batting average, 4189 hits and 891 stolen bases, "the Georgia Peach" played for the Detroit Tigers (1905-1926) and the Philadelphia Athletics (1927-1928). Check, not examined outside folio, has normal cancellation holes and stamps, not at signature. Fine condition.
