Playbill for a production of Ulysses in Nighttown at New York's Winter Garden Theatre (1974). This played, adapted from a segment of the James Joyce novel, received a Tony nomination, as did co-stars Zero Mostel (as Leopold Bloom) and Fionnula Flanagan (as Molly Bloom). Mostel won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Performance. DANNY MEEHAN and BERT MICHAELS performed multiple roles each in the supporting cast. ZERO MOSTEL (1915-1977) won three Tony Awards for his Broadway appearances in Rhinoceros, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, which he repeated for the screen in 1966, and Fiddler on the Roof. He followed Forum with one of the classic comedy performances of all time, producer Max Bialystock in Mel Brooks' The Producers. Mostel's final appearance was in the Academy Award-winning documentary Best Boy (1979). Irish actress FIONNULA FLANAGAN (b. 1941), a veteran of the Dublin stage, has also been seen often on American TV, winning an Emmy for Rich Man, Poor Man (1976) and appearing in 3 different Star Trek series. She played the militantly supportive mother of an IRA hunger striker in Some Mother's Son (1996), and is in real life a supporter of the Irish Nationalist movement and its political arm, Sinn Fein.
