Handwritten, signed letter from the actor briefly describing his
career, noting his first acting role as a child in minstrel shows
Autograph letter signed: "Val Dufour", in blue ink, 8½x11.
Accompanied by original mailing envelope. June 27, 1984. In part:
"Dear Todd - I was born Albert V. Dufour Jr. in New Orleans. The "V",
stands for Valery. I've been actor as long as I can remember. Started singing
and dancing in Minstrel Shows in blackface. The first song I sang (at 6 yrs.
Old) was "I Ain't Gonna Give Nobody None of my Jellyroll" - and I did a tap
dance". Val Dufour (1928-2000), born in New Orleans to Parisian
French parents, made his Broadway debut in High Button Shoes
(1947). He may be best remembered to a wider audience for his starring roles
in daytime TV dramas: Walter Curtin in Another World (1967-1972)
and John Wyatt on Search for Tomorrow (1972-1979). He was seen in
many TV guest spots in the 1950s and 1960s, including 4 episodes of
Gunsmoke and many other Western roles. Normal mailing fold. Slight
surface creases. Fine condition.
