Black and white photograph (4x6) of the cosmonaut in his space suit, signed in 1989
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Lolli Wener/[two line sentiment in Russian]/V. Kubasov/3.05.89". B/w, 4x6. Valeri Kubasov (1935-2014) was flight engineer on Soyuz 6 (1969) and Soyuz 19 (1975) and commander of Soyuz 36 (1980), working on the Salyut 6 Space Station, and returning to Earth on Soyuz 35. He was one of the first cosmonauts to train to fly aboard the first space station, Salyut 1, and was destined to fly upon the ill-fated Soyuz 11, but was withdrawn from the crew when it was discovered his right lung was swollen. Kubasov was also one of the first to experiment with welding in space. He retired as a cosmonaut in 1993. Defects from negative reproduced on photo. Corners lightly worn and creased. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso. Creased along upper right margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
