VAUGHN MONROE
Vaughn Monroe signs a card
Signature: "Vaughn Monroe", 3½x2 card. Typed caption affixed
at lower right margin. Vaughn Monroe (1911-1973), the popular orchestra
leader who was known for his boyish good looks and engaging personality, got
his big break at Meadowbrook in the spring of 1941. The singer and
trumpet player got mixed reviews from critics, but was a hit with the ladies.
When the Big Band era drew to a close, Monroe's band, which had focused on
singing rather than instrumentals, continued in popularity. Monroe was also
a big hit on radio, well known for both his singing and his Camel Cigarette
commercials, and he continued to sing, both on RCA Victor recordings and as
the company's spokesperson, on RCA's television commercials into the mid-1960s.
Light stain touches the "hn" in Vaughn and the "Mon" of Monroe. Overall, fine
condition.
