and charities. Most notably, she was one of the prominent figures that
prevented the demolishing of Carnegie Hall in 1960. While her more famous
husband conductor Isaac Stern was the face of the movement, she did a lot of
the work behind the scenes. In recognition of her dedication to Carnegie Hall,
Box 44 has her name. Isaac Stern (1920-2001), who presented some 200
concerts annually during the height of his career, appeared in a number of
documentaries and TV specials, including the Emmy Award-winning Carnegie
Hall: The Grand Reopening (1987) and Yo-Yo Ma: At Tanglewood (1990).
The virtuoso, who made his U.S. debut with the San Francisco Symphony
Orchestra in 1936, first performed at Carnegie Hall in 1943, and he would
later serve as President of Carnegie Hall for 40 years. Among Stern's many
honors were the Kennedy Center Honor (presented by President Reagan in
1984) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (awarded by President Bush in
1992). Fine condition.
