VERNON E. JORDAN, JR.
Signature from the lawyer who helped employ Monica Lewinsky in President Bill Clinton's office
Signature: "Vernon Jordan, Jr.", in black felt tip, 5x3. Vernon E. Jordan, Jr. (b. 1935), a Black American Civil Rights leader and lawyer, is best known for helping to find a job for Monica Lewinsky in 1997. Jordan, a graduate of Howard University Law School, had been Executive Director of the United Negro College Fund (1970-1971) and President of the National Urban League (1972-1981) before retiring to law practice in Washington, D.C. after being wounded by a sniper. The head of the transition team for incoming President Bill Clinton in 1992-1993, Jordan had become a good friend of and influential advisor to the President. Independent counsel Kenneth Starr's investigation delved into whether Jordan had urged Lewinsky to lie or promised her a job, allegations (strongly denied by Jordan) that were not addressed in Starr's report to Congress. Starr had already been investigating a similar allegation against Jordan relating to Webster Hubbell, a former associate attorney general who was being pursued as a witness in the Whitewater case (Jordan had arranged a $60,000 retainer for Hubbell at Revlon). Corners slightly worn. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
