Autograph Sentiment on First Day Cover Signed: "With Best Wishes/Vic Seixas", 6½x3½. First Day Cover honoring the centennial of tennis, 10-cent embossed tennis envelope, postmarked Forest Hills, New York, August 31, 1974, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Elias Victor Seixas, Jr. (born in 1923) played in the U.S. Championships at Forest Hills a record 28 times between 1940-1969, winning the singles championship in 1954. Seixas, who won 15 major titles in singles, doubles and mixed, including 13 U.S. titles, also played in more Davis Cup matches (1951-1957) than any other U.S. player until his record was broken by John McEnroe. Ranked in the Top Ten in the U.S. 13 times between 1942-1966, the high point in Seixas' career came in 1953, when he won the singles title at Wimbledon, led the U.S. team to the Davis Cups finals and was ranked No. 3. In 1966, the 42-year-old Seixas played - and won - the fifth longest match in tennis history, defeating 22-year-old Australian Davis Cup player Bill Bowrey in 94 games that took nearly four hours. Seixas, who won only one Davis Cup (1954), was enshrined in the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1971. Fine condition.
