VICTOR OLIVER, CO-SIGNED BY: RIC KENNEDY, ROY EDWARDS

Signed by the popular British comedian and actor, with small magazine photo

Signatures: "Vic Oliver" in blue ink and, on verso, "Ric Kennedy/Trombone" in blue ink and "Best wishes/Roy Edwards/(Squads)" in pencil. Also with "Empire Theatre 1949/Vic Oliver" and, on verso, "Empire Theatre 1950/Out of Squadriners", both in unknown hand. Comes with b/w 1x1¼ magazine photo of Oliver. Victor Oliver von Samek (1898-1964) was a British actor/comedian who studiedmedicine at Vienna University but left it for his real passion: music. During World War I he served in the Austrian Cavalry and once it was over, he worked as a banker and a textile manufacturer before returning to music. In 1926 he visited the United States as a conductor and violinist and discovered his talent for comedy by chance when he had to apologize to his audience for something. In addition to appearing on stage, Oliver was featured in several films, including Rhythm in the Air (1936), Meet Mr. Penny and I'll Be Your Sweetheart (1945), and he was a regular on the TV series, Hotel Imperial (1958). Oliver was married to actress Sarah Churchill, the daughter of Sir Winston Churchill, from 1936 until their divorce in 1945. As a Jew, his name was reportedly listed on a Nazi blacklist known as “The Black Book” of people to be arrested and killed immediately in the event of a successful German invasion of Britain. In 1946 Oliver married Natalie Frances Conder in Westminster, London and they had one daughter. He wrote an autobiography: Mr Showbusiness. Co-signers merit for further research. Lightly toned. Page has been torn neatly from album. Otherwise, fine condition.
