Signature: "H. Ijichi" in English, added in another hand: "Rear Admiral/Commanding Japanese/Training Squadron", 4½x2½ card. In the Russo-Japanese War, Captain Ijichi commanded Admiral Togo Heihachiro's flagship, the battleship Mikasa, seeing action at Port Arthur (February-June 1904), the Battle of the Yellow Sea (August 1904) and Tsushima (May 1905). At the Battle of Tsushima, Russia's Baltic fleet was destroyed. Mediation by President Theodore Roosevelt ended the war (Treaty of Portsmouth, 1905). Ijichi was promoted to Rear Admiral in 1906 and Vice Admiral in 1909. Ink smudged at "H" of signature. Shaded at edges, rust paper clip stain at upper blank margin. Identifying notes in pencil (unknown hand) and mounting remnants on verso lightly show through. Lightly soiled.
