In full: "As the U.S. House of Representatives moves into full legislative session, I have received my new committee assignments. I will be serving the people of the Fourth District of Indiana on the International Relations and the Small Business Committees. As I begin my responsibilities, I want to take this opportunity to again say thank you for your contribution which helped make my re-election possible. I look forward to working for a better Nation and government which serves the people. I hope you will keep in touch with me and advise me of your views. Be of good cheer! Sincerely".J. Danforth "Dan" Quayle (b. 1947) represented Indiana in the US House of Representatives (1977-1981) and Senate (1981-1989). He was elected Vice President on the Republican ticket with George Bush in 1989, but defeated for re-election. When first inaugurated, Quayle was the third youngest Vice President (after John Breckinridge and Richard Nixon).
