Vic presidential card signed: "Dan Quayle/6-28-1991" as G. Bush's Vice President, 5½x4¼ card. Embossed with the Vice Presidential seal, signed beneath the words: "The Vice President/of the United States of America". Official Vice Presidential card signed just 13 days after President Bush was interviewed by ABC, CBS and NBC reporters in Los Angeles, giving his opinion on his Vice President in his third year in office. In part: "Dan Quayle has been superb. May I give you an example? He just came back from Eastern Europe. I don't remember any front-page stories or spelling out the great success of that trip. And it was successful. He's over there reassuring the Eastern Europeans that we are interested in their recovery. All you read about is the Soviet Union in that regard. He did a fantastic job there. He's done it in South America. He's done it in Asia. He's done it domestically, supporting my domestic agenda that we don't read too much about. And so, he's doing a first-class job." At 41, James Danforth Quayle, a U.S. Representative (1977-1981) and Senator (1981-1989) from Indiana, was Vice President under George Bush from 1989-1993 was the third youngest U.S. Vice President when he was inaugurated in 1989; Buchanan's V.P. John Breckinridge was 36 and Eisenhower's V.P. Richard Nixon was 40. He ran unsuccessfully for reelection in 1992. Quayle was the first Republican Vice Presidential candidate to fail to be reelected since Charles Curtis in 1932. Quayle declared his candidacy for the 2000 Republican presidential nomination in January 1999, then dropped out of the race eight months later. Slightly irregular top edge.
