In full: "I hereby nominate as Commissioner of the State Insurance Fund MILTON A. HENDRICKSON of Valley Stream, who was heretofore appointed during the recess of the Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the expiration of term of Roger J. Sinnott." Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller (1908-1979), the son of John D. Rockefeller, Jr., was Governor of New York from 1959-1973, during which time he twice sought the Republican Presidential nomination (1964 and 1968). During WWII, he had served as Assistant Secretary of State. In 1974, Gerald Ford, who had assumed the presidency upon the resignation of Richard Nixon, appointed Rockefeller as his Vice President under the provisions of the 25th Amendment. Rockefeller, who served as Vice President until 1977, declined to seek the 1976 GOP nomination. At the time of his death, Rockefeller was worth approximately $1 billion. Stamped at upper left: "A message from the Governor was received and read in the words following"; stamped at upper right: "State of New York in Senate, Jan 11 1962". "Finance" stamped below receipt stamp. Stamped to right of name: "In Senate/Confirmed Jan 23 1962" and "Albert". Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Upper right blank corner chipped away, nicked at mid-right blank edge. Slightly soiled at right margin to right of signature. Overall, fine condition.
