Document signed: "Nelson A Rockefeller" as Governor, 5p, 9½x16. State of New York Executive Chamber (Albany), 1961 March 7. Secured at top edge with two metal brads. Report to the legislature on "Financial Difficulties of the Commuter Railroads" with recommendations for legislative action. Signed on final page. Various ink stamps, including receipt stamp of the state Senate and an order that the message be printed and referred to the Committee on Finance. Rockefeller (1908-1979), the grandson of John D. Rockefeller Sr., was Governor of New York from 1959-1973 and sought the Republican Presidential nomination in 1964 and 1968. (He had secured Platform assurances from Vice President Nixon in exchange for not contesting the nomination that year.) When President Nixon resigned and Vice President Ford succeeded to the presidency in 1974, Rockefeller was chosen by President Ford to be Vice President of the U.S. under the provisions of the 25th Amendment. Rockefeller, who did not seek the nomination in 1976, served as VP from 1974-1977. Light horizontal folds. Slightly soiled in p1 lower margin. Lightly creased and soiled in blank areas of pages 4 & 5. Otherwise, fine condition.
