NELSON A. ROCKEFELLER
Nelson A. Rockefeller sends a typed letter of thanks for the comments
about the Meet the Press program.
Typed Letter Signed: "N.A. Rockefeller" as Governor of New
York, 1p, 7x10. Albany, New York, 1959 July 29. To Carl L. Shipley,
Chairman, District of Columbia Republican State Committee, Washington, D.C.
In full: "Your thoughtful note of the twentieth concerning the Meet
the Press program is much appreciated." Rockefeller had become Governor just
seven months earlier. Nelson A. Rockefeller (1908-1979), the grandson of John D.
Rockefeller Sr., was Governor of New York from 1959-1973 and sought the
Republican Presidential nomination in 1964 and 1968. (He had secured Platform
assurances from Vice President Nixon in exchange for not contesting the
nomination that year.) When President Nixon resigned and Vice President Ford
succeeded to the presidency in 1974, Rockefeller was chosen by President Ford
to be Vice President of the U.S. under the provisions of the 25th Amendment.
Rockefeller, who did not seek the nomination in 1976, served as VP from
1974-1977. Lightly creased. Fine
condition.
