Albany, New York, 1962 August 1. On official letterhead to Carl L.
Shipley, Chairman, Republican State Committee for the District of Columbia In
full: "Many thanks for your letter of July ninth about the New York
Absentee Voters' Committee. We certainly appreciate this help a great deal. With
best wishes, Sincerely." Nelson A. Rockefeller (1908-1979), the grandson of
John D. Rockefeller Sr., was Governor of New York from 1959-1973 and
sought the Republican Presidential nomination in 1964 and 1968. (He had secured
Platform assurances from Vice President Nixon in exchange for not contesting the
nomination that year.) When President Nixon resigned and Vice President Ford
succeeded to the presidency in 1974, Rockefeller was chosen by President Ford
to be Vice President of the U.S. under the provisions of the 25th Amendment.
Rockefeller, who did not seek the nomination in 1976, served as VP from
1974-1977. Lightly creased. Lightly toned at
lower edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
