WALTER F. MONDALE
Walter F. Mondale sends a typed letter of thanks for the material.
Typed Letter Signed: "Fritz" as Vice President, 1p, 7x9. The Vice President, Washington, D.C., 1979 October 31. To Senator Daniel P. Moynihan, Washington, D.C. In full: "I have received your material on Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and have asked Secretary Harris to look into the proposal. Warmest best wishes." Walter Frederick "Fritz" Mondale represented Minnesota in the U.S. Senate from 1964-1976 when he resigned after being elected Vice President (1977-1981). In 1980, the Carter-Mondale ticket became the first Democratic ticket to fail to be reelected since Van Buren-Johnson in 1840. In 1984, Mondale lost the presidential election to President Reagan. PATRICIA ROBERTS HARRIS, the first Black American woman in a President's Cabinet, was Carter's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (1977-1979), Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare (1979) and the first Secretary of Health and Human Services (1979-1981). Brooklyn Jewish Hospital, incorporated in 1901, opened the building at One Prospect Place in 1927. In 1979, Brooklyn Jewish filed for bankruptcy. No doubt, this was the subject of the material sent to the Vice President by Senator Moynihan. Brooklyn Jewish Hospital merged with St. John's Episcopal Hospital in 1982 to form Interfaith Medical Center. DIRECTLY FROM THE SALE OF THE ESTATE OF DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN. Moynihan (1927-2003) represented New York in the U.S. Senate as a Democrat for four terms (1977-2001). A prolific author, he served in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. Estate inventory stamp in left margin. Date stamp on verso shows through lightly in upper left. Lightly creased. File note at upper right.
