Herbert's signature on two hand-drawn bars of music from Natoma
Autograph Musical Quotation signed: "Sincerely/yours/Victor Herbert", 1p, 4x3½. He has drawn two bars of music, titling them "Natoma", his opera composed in 1900. Irish-born and German-raised, VictorHerbert (1859-1924) was a composer, cellist, and conductor. Works of the composer include Babes in Toyland and Naughty Marietta. From 1893-1898, he conducted the 22nd New York Regiment Band and then conducted the Pittsburgh Symphony (1898-1904). In 1904, Herbert organized his own orchestra in New York. Herbert also wrote musical scores for the Ziegfeld Follies (1917, 1921-1924). Lightly stained and soiled. Toned. Fold through center. Slight surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
