VICTOR JORY
Head shot photo of the boxer/wrestler champion, Inscribed in person to collector Saul Goodman
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Saul/Sincerely/Victor Jory". B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: March 02, 1937. Alaskan-born Jory (1902-1982) was a U.S. Coast Guard boxing and wrestling champion. He played occasional leads, but more often character parts in films, often as a heavy. Key roles included A Midsummer Night's Dream (1935), Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1938), Man of Conquest (1940), The Miracle Worker (1962) and Papillon (1973). He played Lamont Cranston in a serialization of The Shadow (1940). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Corners lightly worn and creased. Lightly toned around edges. Minor surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
