VICTOR McLAGLEN and CHARLES BEYER
McLaglen hires Beyer as his agent for a term of three years
Contract signed: "Victor McLaglen", "Charles Beyer". 8½x11. Los Angeles, California, 1947 March 18. Artists' Manager and Agency Contract. Beyer is hired to represent McLaglen - in the movie industry only - for a term of 3 years, in exchange for 10% of all money and other compensation paid to McLaglen. English actor VICTOR McLAGLEN (1886-1959) was a skilled boxer, heavyweight champion of the British Army before World War I. He staged a 6-round exhibition with world champ Jack Johnson. In the 1920s, McLaglen became a character actor, beginning in the silent era, especially known for playing drunks. He had starring roles, too, winning the 1935 Academy Award for Best Actor for The Informer. A favorite of director John Ford, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor opposite John Wayne in The Quiet Man (1952). Among his other well-know films were Gunga Din (1939), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949) and Around the World in 80 Days (1956). On TV, he appeared in episodes of Rawhide and Have Gun, Will Travel directed by his son, Andrew McLaglen. CHARLES BEYER (1893-1953) played supporting roles in numerous films between 1916 and 1929. His films include The Man Who Paid (1922), Weekend Husbands (1924), The Unguarded Hour (1925), Cabaret (1927), Taxi 13 (1928), Side Street (1929) and The Delightful Rogue (1929). Later in his acting career, he went by the screen name Charles Byer. He was also a famous agent, working with such film stars as W. C. Fields, May Robson and - as shown here - MacLaglen. Toned. Staples at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
