VICTOR SPINETTI
The celebrated Welsh comic actor pens a short letter to John Willis, chief editor of Theatre World
Autograph letter signed: "Victor Spinetti," 1 page, 6x8. To: "Dear John Willis." In full: "How very exciting to get your letter; I leave on Tuesday for England but I'll be back; mid August for 'Skyscraper' if I can get the permit. See you when I can get back I hope. Sincerely." Prominent British television star Victor Spinetti (1929-2012) was a Welsh-born comic actor who performed in film, television and on stage for nearly 50 years. Spinetti is probably most known for starring in all three of the popular Beatles films A Hard Day's Night (1964), Help! (1965) and The Magical Mystery Tour (1967). His other notable works include Two in Clover (1969-1970), SuperTed (1982-1984), Sweet Sixteen (1983), Taming of the Shrew (1967) and The Philanthropist (1971). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Fine condition.
