Victor Vasarely (1908-1997), considered the "Father of Op-Art", started his career as a graphic designer. His earlier works, primarily posters, featured abstract patterned subjects, including harlequins, chessboards and zebras. Exploring the science of optical effects and illusions, Vasarely later added intense color for contrast to geometric shapes, creating pieces with the illusion of depth and, in some cases, motion.
