VICTÒRIA de los ÁNGELES
Photograph of de los Ángeles signed in black ink to her "good friend", dated 1952
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To my good friend/with sincere affection/Victoria de los Angeles/1952." in Spanish. B/w, 8x10. Photograph signed the year after the Spanish soprano debuted with New York's Metropolitan Opera, where she would sing for ten years, and at La Scala, where she would appear until 1956. Victòria de los Ángeles (1923-2005), born Victoria Gomez Cima, made her professional debut as the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro in 1945. She debuted in Paris in 1949, the year before de los Ángeles first appeared in Salzburg and in her first U.S. recital at Carnegie Hall. Although her career peaked in the mid-1970s, de los Ángeles, continued to sing her favorite role, Carmen, into the 1980s, and she sang at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases and striations, light horizontal crease (not evident head on) at facial image. Stamp of Hurok Attractions, New York on verso (no show through). Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
