Publicity photo of a grey-haired Sassoon, wearing a suit and tie
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Lillie Blanchard/With warm feelings/Vidal Sassoon". Color, 7¾x9¾. Vidal Sassoon(1928-2012) spent his teens street-fighting Fascists in East London during World War II and joined the Israeli Defense Force when he was 20 to fight in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. It's a surprising background for a hairstylist who revolutionized hair styles and hair care in the 1960s. Employed by famed London celebrity hairstylist Raymond Bessone, better known as "Mr. Teasy-Weasy", in the 1950s, his contributions, like geometric hair styles, the "Nancy Kwan", worn by the actress in The Wild Affair (1963), the wash-and-wear perm and his recreation of the bob cut, tend to be short, modernist and low-maintenance. Most people may know his name better through a line of Procter & Gamble hair care products that bear his name. Lightly creased. Ink transference at upper right corner. Light scuff marks on image (not visible head-on). Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
