Autograph Note Signed: "Vilhjalmur Stefansson", 1p, 4½x6¾. New York, 1923 November 11. To Mr. Temple. In full: "I don't have a photograph with me, but here is the signature of." Lightly worn at edges. Horizontal fold not near signature. Fine condition. With original mailing envelope, addressed to Mr. William U. Temple,624 West 37 St., Des Moines, Iowa, postmarked Times Sq. Sts., N. Y., November 11, 1923. Lightly soiled. Fine condition. Born on the Isle of Man, Stefansson lived among the Eskimo (1906-1907), learning their language and culture. He carried outethnographical and zoological studies among the Mackenzie and Copper Eskimo (1908-1912). From 1913-1918 Stefansson, known for his lengthy expeditions on which he subsisted largely on local resources, was in command of an expedition to explore Canadian and Alaskan regions of the Arctic. His polar artifacts are now housed in the Stefansson Collection at Dartmouth College, where he served as a curator in his later years. Two items.
