VINCE LOMBARDI and JIM HURD
Vince Lombardi signs a check to Albion College back Jim Hurd in 1960.
Check signed: "Vincent Lombardi" as Head Coach of the Green Bay Packers, 8x3. Green Bay, Wisconsin, July, 23, 1960. Drawn on Vince Lombardi's account at Kellogg Citizens National Bank, payable to Jim Hurd in the amount of $30.00, endorsed, "Jim Hurd" on verso. In his rookie season, VINCE LOMBARDI (1913-1970) earned Coach of the Year honors. The following year, he led the Packers to their first Western Conference title since 1944. The legendary coach led the Green Bay Packers to four additional NFL titles, and his teams won the first two Super Bowls (1967, 1968). At the time of his death, Lombardi was the NFL's all-time most winning coach with percentage of .740 (105-35-6). The Super Bowl trophy is named in honor of Lombardi, who was elected to the Football Hall of Fame in 1971. JIM HURD joined the Green Bay Packers after achieving a successful career at Albion College. There he was selected as a Second Team All-American, a member of the All State Small College team, established Albion's career rushing record, co-captained the football team and received the team's morale award. He was also selected to the All-MIAA team for four years. Drafted in 1959, Hurd suffered an injury during the 1960 preseason and was put on the injury reserved list. He failed to compete professionally thereafter. After the NFL he became the officer and owner with Krueger International from 1962.
