Vince Lombardi signs a check to NAIA All-American Rusty Addleman in 1960.
Check signed: "Vincent Lombardi" as Head Coach of the Green Bay Packers, 8x3. Green Bay, Wisconsin, July, 28, 1960. Drawn on Vince Lombardi's account at Kellogg Citizens National Bank, payable to George Addleman in the amount of $71.00, endorsed, "George Addleman" on verso. In his rookie season, Vince Lombardi (1913-1970) earned Coach of the Year honors. The following year, he led the Packers to their first Western Conference title since 1944. The legendary coach led the Green Bay Packers to four additional NFL titles, and his teams won the first two Super Bowls (1967, 1968). At the time of his death, Lombardi was the NFL's all-time most winning coach with percentage of .740 (105-35-6). The Super Bowl trophy is named in honor of Lombardi, who was elected to the Football Hall of Fame in 1971. George "Rusty" Addleman was the 1959 NAIA All-American football player. The star of Emporia College, Addleman helped lead the Presbies to the 1959 KCAC football championship. He graduated with 17 varsity letters (football, track, baseball, basketball, golf), and a football record of 3,729 rushing yards and a new school record of scoring 138 points in a single season. Vince Lombardi drafted him in the 1960 draft, and while he survived training camp, he was cut before the regular season. Cancellation stamps and perforations (holes near Addleman's signature, still legible). Creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
