VINCENT LAWRENCE
He is hired by Samuel Goldwyn, Inc. to work on the screenplay for the classic film Gary Cooper/Walter Brennan film The Westerner.
Contract signed: "Vincent Lawrence", 1 page, 14x8½. No place, 1939 December 13. Lawrence is hired by Samuel Goldwyn, Inc. to work on the screen adaptation and dialogue for Vinegaroon, alternately titled The Westerner. Vincent Lawrence (1889-1946) wrote several Broadway plays, beginning with The Ghost Between (1921). Soon he was turning his plays into silent films, and by the mid-1920s was writing original stories for cinema. Among his best known works were Cecil B. DeMille's Cleopatra (with Claudette Colbert in the title role, 1934) and Moon Over Miami (with Betty Grable and Don Ameche, (1941). Lawrence is not listed in the credits for The Westerner, which starred Gary Cooper and Walter Brennan, but this is not surprising. He was called on to assist other writers on many major studio films of the era, including Gunga Din and Pride of the Yankees. Lawrence wrote for, and contributed dialogue to, most of the major stars of his era, from Errol Flynn to Cary Grant. Filing holes at top edge. Multiple mailing folds. Signature bled but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
