VINCENT PRICE
Price signed this contract in 1962, agreeing to write an essay for Collier Books on Great Melodramas for $100. A rare look at Price's stage and scholarly experience.
Contract signed "Vincent Price" in blue ink. Also signed by a representative of Collier Books, a division of the Crowell-Collier Publishing Company, in New York City in blue ink. 1 page, 8½x10¾. June 24, 1962. Price agreed to write an essay of 1,500 or so words for Collier Books in connection with a work entitled Great Melodramas by Sept. 1, 1962. He was to be paid $100 for this essay. This contract gives a rare glimpse into Price's stage and scholarly experience. A master of the horror genre, Price (1911-1993, born Vincent Leonard Price, Jr. in St. Louis, Missouri) was an American actor with over 170 films and TV shows to his credit between 1938 and 1993. He starred in such other spine-tingling films as House of Wax (1953), The Fly (1958), The Fall of the House of Usher (1960), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961) and The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971). The actor, also a veteran of Broadway, stage and serious films, was also a noted art expert and collector. Price frequently lectured on art and published several books on the subject. Lightly toned and creased. Staple holes in upper left corner. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
